Day Two: September 12

Last night, police barricades were set up along 14th, Houston, and Canal Streets. The city evacuated everyone south of Canal, and proof of residence is now required to cross Houston.

The sirens stopped late last night, and apart from a stream of emergency equipment and vehicles heading south, the streets are quiet and empty. I haven’t hear a car horn all day, which is a first.

Businesses are closed, though by nightfall three restaurants in Soho manage to open with reduced staff.

The dump trucks run all night.
